Email ID used to be your identity some few years back, but now its your Twitter handle or Facebook ID. Things have suddenly changed from, ” Can I have your email ID ? to Whats your Twitter handle? or Are you in Facebook?”. People aren’t much interested in your email anymore. If you are in a professional network than you have your linkedIn ID. They have already made their way into your visiting card and email’s signature. Anyone without a social ID is outdated or are from Old paradigm. But things get quite complicated when you have too many social ID competing for its dominance of web.

Facebook connect to Digg

One of the important things that these social ID do is that it allows you to log in to web sites through your ID. The importance of such features arises when your interaction in the site can be shared with your friends in Facebook or Twitter. This has a good PR value for the site itslef, that is why many site’s are implementing them to harness the power of population in social network. Right, now Facebook dominates Twitter over the coverage with its 350 Million users.

The potential of such feature is so high that Google had recently launched its own Friend Connect where you could login through your gmail credentials. But with current integration of Facebook with Yahoo’s social network, Google must have sensed the urgency to quickly team up with Twitter to bring better connection.

Starting immediately, if a site has Friend Connect installed, a user can log-in using either their Google account or their Twitter account. And if they’ve logged in with their Twitter credentials, their username and profile picture are passed through OAuth back to Friend Connect. More importantly, it means that you can easily tweet with the click of a button (to invite friends to check out the site). And any comment they leave on that site can be automatically tweeted out.

Though Facebook has more advantages with its million user base, the integration of Google with Twitter might require some time before they make their presence.
