1. Facebook: When it comes to Social Networking, Facebook wins hans down. As per their press release, Facebook has about 250 million active users. Founded in February 2004, it has more than one million developers and entrepreneurs from more than 180 countries.
2. MySpace: It was founded by former Friendster members Chris Dewolfe and Tom Anderson in 2003. MySpace once was the biggest competition to Facebook but has been losing its charm ever since.
3. Twitter: This Microblogging site is one of the most talked about application in the recent times. They had a 1,382% year-over-year growth in February 2009. Twitter has given way to a new form of marketing – Marketing in 140 characters.
4. Hi5: Founded in 2003, the site has highest number of users come from Mexico and Thailand. Hi5 has been continously losing its popularity in the last six months but is still one of the most powerful social networking sites.
5. Orkut: The brazilian version of Orkut is one of the most popular social networking site just because of a really high number of Brazillian users. Although Orkut is less popular in the United States than its competitors, it is one of the most visited websites in Brazil and India.
