Are you following an impersonator in Twitter? Well, the answer to your question is here. Just to help its ever so growing tweep base, Twitter has come out with a noble idea of verifying the accounts of twitteratis. Twitter is now on a mission to verify the accounts of celebrities and a-list tweeters. In a tweet posted in the site, Twitter says:
What is a verified account?
To prevent identity confusion, Twitter is experimenting (beta testing) with a ‘Verified Account’ feature. We’re working to establish authenticity with people who deal with impersonation or identity confusion on a regular basis. Accounts with a
are the real thing!
So what does this mean?
If you want to follow big shots like Oprah Winfrey, Guy Kawasaki, Britney Spears or scores of other celebs/personalities, Twitter will show a special tick on the profile page of these tweeters to help the followers ensure that they are following the REAL personalities and not impersonators. However this doesn’t mean that all those celebs who do not have the special Verified badge on Twitter are fakes.

Twitter has been sporadically hit by cases of fake accounts and impersonators. For e.g., fake accounts of Chuck Norris, Michael Bay, Sarah Palin, Christopher Walken and scores of other, had given hard times for tweeters around the world. Hence with this new, still in beta, service, Twitter looks to kick all those impersonators out of the context.
So next time you search for a celeb, do scan the search page for that verified tick/badge.

Nice write up.
Amidst the name inflation in social networking & media sites, this initiation is really appreciable.
Cheers to Twitter!
