Twitter not growing anymore!

Twitter is reckoned as one of the fastest growing social networking site and one of the most talked about start up for over a year now. According to Compete.com, the number of unique visits doubled in a month (Feb’09- Mar’09) in US alone. The number of unique visits in US was about 7 million in Feb 2009 and it went to about 14 million in March2009.

Like all startups, the question that crossed everyone’s mind was whether Twitter would be able to sustain this growth. Twitter is reportedly valued at $1 billion and that is certainly a huge number specially when the plans of revenue generation have not been disclosed officially.

I have a lot of trust in Twitter and believe in its growth but its very unlikely that Twitter would continue to grow at the same pace for a very long time and is sure to hit the threshold at sometime. The question then is how soon would ’sometime’ be?

A look at this graph from Compete makes me wonder whether the threshold is reached.

Twitter’s growth in US has been quite stagnant for the last three months after it huge jump in the month of March. US is the largest contributor to Twitter traffic. According to Alexa:

If the unique visits from US have been stagnant, where is the growth coming from?
